Supported Instagram Aspect Ratios
The Problem
Photos posted on Instagram are displayed in three predefined aspect ratios: 16:9 for wide shots, 4:5 for portrait images and 1:1 for square images. The problem is that most digital cameras do not save images in these formats. Depending on the sensor sizes only 2:3, 4:3 or 1:1 aspect ratio sizes are available. When trying to post a 2:3 portrait photo on Instagram the image will not fit in the 4:5 format. Either the top or the bottom of the original image needs to be cropped.
HowTo fit any Aspect Ratio Photo into Instagram using Lightroom Classic Print Module
To avoid cropping images and to be able to post any aspect ratio format in any of the Instagram formats, I created the free ‘Lightroom Instagram Print Templates’ to be used within the Adobe Lightroom Classic Print Module. Using the Print Module, we can digitally print any aspect ratio image on an Instagram-compatible canvas, export this image and post it in full size.
